Biological Effects of Yeast-fermented Plant Root Extract Mixture on Skin Cells

Purpose: To verify the biological effects including anti-aging and anti-inflammatory effects, of fermented plant root extract mixtures that were measured <i>in vitro</i>.Method: select most effective extract, DPPH free radical scavenging measured. The mixture (MC) selected roots was with <i>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</i> (<i>S. cerevisiae</i>) (MF). Reverse transcription (RT)-PCR performed on human dermal fibroblast to measure MC MF mRNA expression <i>COL1A1</i> hyaluronic acid synthase 2 (<i>HAS2</i>) anti-inflammatory-related gene expressions such as cyclooxygenase-2 (<i>COX-2</i>), interleukin-6 (<i>IL-6</i>), tumor-necrosis factor (<i>TNF</i>)-α. Additionally, we also tested cell renewal proliferation for skin migration. Student's t-test statistical analysis, results expressed mean ± standard deviation.Results: Among 15 extracts, those <i>Taraxacum officinale</i> (<i>T. officinale</i>) rhizome, <i>Arctium lappa</i> (<i>A. lappa</i>), <i>Anemarrhena asphodeloides</i> asphodeloides</i>), <i>Pueraria lobata</i> (<i>P. lobata</i>), <i>Nelumbo nucifera</i> (<i>N. nucifera</i>) based effect scavenging. levels <i>HAS2</i> increased by in a concentration-dependent manner. showed proliferation. Inflammation-related genes inhibited or manner (<i>TNF-α</i>, <i>IL-6</i>, <i>COX-2</i>). significantly better efficacy than MC.Conclusion: Mixed extracts <i>T. officinale rhizome/root</i>, <i>A. lappa</i>, asphodeloides</i>, <i>P. lobata</i>, <i>N. <i>S. enable renewal, have can be used an active cosmetic raw materials.
